One of the many health benefits of practicing yoga is its ability to not only soothe our souls, but nourish our bodies.
Regular yoga practice can help provide relief to the aches and pains that our bodies develop from our busy lifestyles, while helping us to become stronger.
Often times, we develop back pain from spending lots of time in the car bustling from place to place or from spending prolonged periods of time hunched over at our desks. (1)
Adding a yoga swing or yoga trapeze to your at home practice can be a great way to provide additional relief to lower back pain, help you build additional strength, get pr deeper into back bends and stretches, and work on your core strengths (a stronger core helps protect our lower backs). Not only that, but it’s a fun way to bring your practice to the next level! (2)
With so many different swings out there it can be difficult to know which one to use to swing your way to yogic bliss.

FAQ’s and Tips
#1. How does using a yoga swing help reduce lower back pain?
The vertebrate in our spine become compressed from activities in our normal day-to-day lives such as driving, being hunched over a desk or computer, and even just from the force of gravity.
One of the best ways to create natural traction is by hanging upside down or inverted on a yoga swing. When we hang in this position, suspended and inverted with our heads towards the floor, the vertebrate in our spine are pulled away from each other. When this happens it creates space between the vertebrate relieving compression that results in back pain and bulging disks.
#2. How do you mount your yoga swing?
A. Hanging your yoga swing will depend on the model that you purchase. Many of the models are easily hung by hanging them over an exposed beam. If you want to use your yoga swing outside you can hang it over a tree branch or swing set.
You can also hang your swing in the doorway from a pull up bar if you don’t want to drill into your ceiling.
To hang your yoga swing from the ceiling, find the stud or rafter in your ceiling using a stud finder. Once you find the stud or rafter mark where it is using a pencil.
Make sure to mark in the center of the rafter; you don’t want to attach your hooks or ceiling mount onto the edge of the rafter. Once you have located the center of the rafter or ceiling stud, mark with your pencil where you want to attach the bolts.
Then, using a drill, drill into the ceiling with a drill bit that is the same size as your bolts. Once you have drilled into the ceiling, hold your ceiling hooks in place, and use a wratchet to secure the bolts. Once you have the bolts secured your ceiling hooks are in place and you are ready to hang your swing.
#3. What makes a particular yoga swing a good choice?
A. When selecting a yoga swing you should decide if you want to be able to cocoon up in your swing for meditation or for shavasana. If this is an appealing part of an aerial practice for you, make sure that you select a swing with this feature, as you will not be able to do this with all of the models on the market.
You also want to make sure that the swing you select is capable of supporting your weight. The high quality swings on the market today can support a significant amount of weight.
Additionally, the fabric the swing is constructed out of is an important factor when making your selection. You will be making a lot of contact with the fabric, so a fabric that feels good to you help you get the most benefit from your swing.
#4. How do I learn how to use my yoga swing?
A. While aerial yoga studios are becoming more common across the country, many different tutorials and aerial flow classes can be found online.
This makes it very easy to learn how to use your new yoga swing, as well as is also a great way to have a guided practice from the comfort of your own home. Many of the videos that are available are free, so it’s a great way to build on your practice with out spending a lot of money.
